Early voters presented with absentee ballots

As one of the first signs that Election Day is quickly approaching, early voting will begin Tuesday across Ohio for those unable to vote in their preferred county on Election Day.

The Athens County Board of Elections is geared up for the start of a voting season with presidential, senatorial and congressional races on the ballot.

“Starting tomorrow, you can come in and vote absentee,” said Penny Brooks, deputy director of the Athens County Board of Elections. “You just have to fill out an application, and if everything checks out, we then will give you a ballot that you can either fill out and return to the poll worker or mail it back at a later date.”

You must be registered to vote by 9 p.m. on Oct.. 9 if you would like to vote absentee, Brooks said. If you are looking to vote absentee and are registered in another state, you must fill out a form to be registered with Athens County.

If you are absentee voting and already are registered in the state of Ohio, then all you need to do is transfer your registration from that county to Athens, Brooks said.

Election Day is  Nov. 6.
