Ohio University has made mostly minimal progress towards its sustainability goals over the past year, according to the first Sustainability Plan progress report, released Thursday.
Most benchmarks saw “insignificant” or “minimal” progress, according to the report, although some benchmarks saw “some” or “significant” progress.
“While we’re very proud of our University’s efforts and successes in just one short year, we want to stress that this is a long-term plan,” said Annie Laurie Cadmus, director of sustainability, in a news release, addressing the fact significant progress has not been made in many areas.
Cadmus also said in the release that there shouldn’t be an expectation for benchmarks to reach completion in the plan’s first year.
The sustainability plan was implemented during the 2011-2012 academic year after a process beginning in 2007 with OU President Roderick McDavis signing the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment, which integrates sustainability into both academic and administrative facets of the university, according to the report.
