GSS to help fund Holocaust Memorial Museum exhibit

Graduate Student Senate agreed to help bring a United States Holocaust Memorial Museum exhibit to Ohio University at its Monday meeting.

GSS agreed to give $300 to the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies to bring the Nazi Persecution of Homosexuals exhibit to OU from April 20 through June 13, 2013.

“It’s timely because it will arrive the day after this year’s Day of Silence and we feel confident many students will be interested in coming,” said David Anderson, graduate intern for the department of Women’s and Gender Studies.

GSS also agreed to encourage OU to design a maternity policy for teaching graduate students.

Currently, graduate student teacher maternity leave rights such as time off and salary compensations are determined by the department chair, said Lana Oweidat, a graduate student in the English department in her presentation to GSS.

GSS wants a policy to create consistency and fairness for every graduate student who may need family leave in these circumstances, said Molly Yanity, vice president for administration and finance.

“I anticipate that this will be the most important thing this [GSS] body does all year,” Yanity said.
