OU alum appointed to trustee position

Gov. John Kasich appointed David Scholl to Ohio University’s Board of Trustees to fill a position left vacant since March.

Trustee Norman Dewire retired March 28 and Scholl will fill his position until May 2021, according to a university news release.

“We are delighted to welcome David Scholl to the Ohio University Board of Trustees,” said a statement released by the Board of Trustees. “We look forward to Trustee Scholl’s contributions, informed by his engagement with Ohio University as a student and alumnus and his many other public service and leadership experiences.”

Scholl serves on the board for BioOhio, an Ohio biosciences organization, the Ohio Business Development Coalition and the Ohio Third Frontier Commission, according to the news release.

He has served as senior vice president of Diagnostic Hybrids, Inc., a biotechnology diagnostic firm, according to the news release.

Scholl earned a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences-microbiology at OU and a bachelor degree in biology at Indiana University, according to Rob Nichols, spokesperson for Kasich’s office.

“We look forward to his leadership on our board and the unique perspective he will bring, especially as we focus on enriching the student experience and elevating our leadership role and efforts in the areas of technology transfer and commercialization with the state and nation,” said OU President Roderick McDavis in the news release.

Dewire was not available for comment.
