Post Letter: Homecoming theme was largely ignored

Having just completed my 37th consecutive Homecoming Parade, marching with the Ohio University Marching Band for five years then with the Alumni Band, I hurried into town to get my copy of the three local papers only to find there was NO coverage of the alumni band whatsoever! Two of our three local papers have three pictures of the current band. Another has one small picture of the current band. I don’t know why I was expecting more, as this is the way it is every year.

The theme of this year’s Homecoming was “Better Than The Best Ever,” in honor of the late Ronald P. Socciarelli, conductor of the Marching 110 from 1973 to 1989. We had well over 500 alumni band members marching in the parade and singing the alma mater with the current band at pre-game. Another 300-plus took the field at halftime with the current band to honor our late conductor of bands. Most of these people came from out of state, some from out of the country. Did you not think that was worthy of even one picture?
