An Ohio University student is suing the school for about $600 after his dormitory room flooded in August.
Elijah Justice, 18, filed a complaint against OU in the Ohio Court of Claims Tuesday, asking for $585 in property damage, according to court documents.
Justice said his Ryors Hall room was flooded because of a faucet or hose left on overnight in the maintenance room.
He awoke at about 5 a.m. Aug. 31 to find several of his belongings that were left on the floor in a backpack damaged by the water, according to court documents.
Justice said his TI-84 calculator, laptop, phone charger and surge protector all suffered water damage. He valued the items at $560 and is asking the court to have OU pay for them and the $25 court fee.
OU and the court have yet to file a response to the complaint.
