University Program Council gave students an opportunity to confess personal secrets anonymously through an event inspired by a book series.
UPC hosted its second annual “Post Secret” event on the third floor of Baker University Center last week, printing about 300 postcards to be filled out and displayed for onlookers.
Different confessions were posted on a black felt wall with decorated postcards with everything from relationship problems to quirky revelations.
“While having sex with my boyfriend, I often think of my ex,” an anonymous postcard confessed.
“I let my ferret eat out of my mouth,” another postcard revealed.
The idea of revealing secrets was interesting, said Dominique Aaron a senior studying sociology.
“I was interested to see what people go through,” Aaron said. “I submitted a secret. It’s a little weird having someone read my stuff, and then knowing that they don’t know who that secret belongs to."
Last year about 100 students participated in the event that ended in success, said Victoria Vincent special events executive of UPC and a senior studying exercise physiology.
“This was an opportunity for people to express themselves,” she said. “About 40-50 students put up their secrets through out the day."
About 100-150 students participated in this year’s event, Vincent said, adding that all the postcards will be submitted to the author of the “Post Secret” book series, Frank Warren, for possible selection and publishing.
Karly Strukamp, a junior studying education, chose not to submit a confession but said the postcards are a way for her relate to her peers.
“It’s a helpful tool because it’s freeing to write a secret,” Strukamp said. “It’s like a secret connection among people you never knew.”
