TechGROWTH Ohio awarded $3 million

Ohio University and partners were awarded $3 million to continue growing the initiative TechGROWTH Ohio.

TechGROWTH Ohio connects entrepreneurs with assistance to grow their early-stage businesses with funding, according to its website.

“This new award from the Ohio Third Frontier validates and supports Ohio University’s significant and ongoing efforts to grow the economy in Southeast Ohio by creating more technology companies and, most importantly, jobs in our region,” said OU President Roderick McDavis in a news release.

The award will be matched with private dollars and will allow TechGROWTH to expand its services through 2014.

What started out as a small group of investors, TechGROWTH now partners with OU’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs, Edison Biotechnology Institute, Innovation Center, Office of Technology Transfer, WesBanco, among other firms.

TechGROWTH “numbers” 10 companies around 20 counties throughout Ohio.

“TechGROWTH’s capacity to guide inventors and entrepreneurs through the early stages of company formation creates viable investment opportunities for our Angel fund and individual members,” said Athens East Central Ohio Tech Angel Fund member Chris Gerig in the release.
