It's said that all dogs go to heavan, but having a license for a dog could be the difference between a lost dog being gone forever or returning home safely.
Having a dog license is state law, and could make sure a lost pet is returned, according to a release from Athens County Auditor Jill Thompson's office.
Dog licenses for 2013 will be made available for sale on Dec. 1 and will be considered valid through Jan. 31, 2014. Renewal applications will be mailed to all dog owners who currently own a licensed dog.
In addition to purchasing licenses at Thompson's office, 15 S. Court St., and the Athens County Dog Shelter, 13333 SR 13 in Millfield, Kroger stores in Athens and Nelsonville will serve as satillite locations during select dates in December.
For more information dog owners are urged to call the Athens County Auditor's Office at (740)592-3223.
