The race for the county commissioner seat between Democrat Chris Chmiel and Republican Randy Mace is winding down as election-day approaches.
When asked about last minute preparations, each candidate said they felt like they had done all they could to show voters why they are the best choice on Election Day.
“I’ve pretty much done everything I can; it’s up to the voters now,” Mace said.
Chmiel will be going door to door, talking to more voters and handing out flyers on campus with what time is left before the election, he said.
“(It is) the last little push to meet as many people as I can,” Chmiel said.
Mace expressed his expectations for the race by reaffirming his qualifications.
“I hope I’m going to win. I feel I am the most qualified for the position,” Mace said.
Chmiel had a similar message for his expectations of the race and said, “It feels like you’re living in limbo until the actual Election Day, but I’m feeling like I’ve worked hard, and win or lose four days from now I’ll be out of limbo”
In a final message to voters, Mace emphasized his ability to work beyond political parties.
“If I am elected I will try to represent all the people of the county regardless of their political affiliation,” Mace said.
In Chmeiel’s final statement, he stuck to his same message.
“I’ve been able to be creative, hardworking, and community minded in my personal life and hopefully I can bring that to the office of county commissioner,” he said.
