Festive prints to be sold at Seigfred Hall

Ohio University’s printmaking department will ring in the holiday season next week with its seasonal print sale.

The department’s print sale will be held Nov. 27-29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the lobby of Seigfred Hall.

The sale will include art made and sold by professors, along with graduate and undergraduate students, said Sage Perrott, a third year graduate student studying printmaking, who is in charge of this year’s sale.

The sale primarily has items that could be bought as gifts during the holidays, Perrott said.

Items will include handmade fine art prints, such as lithographs and etchings, as well as tote bags, T-shirts, stickers, patches, sketchbooks, postcards and other stationary.

“We are using the history of printmaking to make commercial products,” Perrott said.

The cost of fine art prints range from $3 to $80. Tote bags will cost about $10, T-shirts will cost $15 and cards will range from $3 to $5, Perrott said.

Artists get 60 percent of the profit, while 40 percent goes toward the Athens Print Guild, which helps pay for travel expenses and hotel stays when students travel to printmaking conferences.

“Conferences are very important to students in the print department, and this sale really helps to enable our students to go,” Perrott said.

The printmaking department usually has one or two sales per year, but Perrott wanted to make the sale bigger this year, she said.

“The sale has been neglected and I wanted to really pump it up this year,” Perrott said. “This sale is a good way to get the community involved with art while making a profit.”
