Eight months after Baker University Center’s top executive announced his resignation, the Office of Student Affairs has filled the position.
Dusty Kilgour was named executive director of Baker University Center and Event Services on Monday, replacing Sujit Chemburkar, who left for a job at the University of South Florida.
Kilgour was made interim associate director of Event Services Operations in January and made $41,857. His new salary is $80,000.
Kilgour has also served as OU’s campus recreation director of the Golf and Tennis Center for six years.
“I’m elated,” Kilgour said. “It’s an awesome job. I’m excited to be selected and I’m excited to get started.”
Kilgour said his priority is to fill Event Services’ three vacant positions; his long-term goals include changing Baker Center’s colors, he said.
“I just want (Baker) to feel more like (the) home of the Bobcats and infuse color because it looks kind of sterile,” Kilgour said. “I want it to be a place that everyone’s proud of and make it look like a central, viable place where residents and commuters can come and relax.”
The search lasted for more than eight months because of the committee members’ focus on organizing the 2012 commencement, said Ryan Lombardi, interim vice president for Student Affairs.
“He’s got a very collaborative style and he’s very student-focused,” Lombardi said. “I’m very pleased with this choice and it was a very clear one.”
Kilgour oversaw Obama’s visit to OU’s campus, a process that was very hectic for the department, he said.
“I would say that since he has moved to our department, he’s brought a good energy and we’re all excited to start working with him in this new capacity,” said Tim Epley, business manager for Event Services.
Chemburkar left to work as the director of the Marshall Student Center at USF. He made $81,405 at OU.
