An Ohio University faculty member was appointed to a committee dedicated to special and gifted education on Wednesday.
Scott Sparks, an OU professor of special education was elected to be a new member for the Board of Directors of the Council for Exceptional Children.
Sparks was one of six candidates that were selected to serve as part of the organization’s policy-making body, execute strategies that will benefit the CEC and addressing questions and concerns that may arise from different policies, according to a news release from the CEC
The CEC is an organization that seeks to improve success in students with gifts or disabilities.
Sparks had been part of the organization for 40 years and upheld numerous positions including the advisor of OU’s student chapter at the state level and as well as a chair of the Knowledge and Skills subcommittee from 2005 to 2011 at the national level.
Sparks will begin his term as a new board member on Jan. 1, 2013 for three years.
