Election Day has come and gone, but the Athens County Board of Elections released the official count for Athens County Tuesday following the board member's approval of provisional and absentee ballots.
All provisional and absentee ballots were reviewed by the Athens County Board of Elections workers and presented to the board's four members for review Monday night.
About 1500 ballots were considered valid and were added to the official count, but the ballots didn't change the outcome of any race on the ballot, said Debbie Quivey, director of the Athens County Board of Elections.
"It didn't happen in Athens this time, but it could. There's always that chance," Quivey said. "Every vote counts and a lot of people have the notion that we don't count provisionals unless the race is close — that's not true. Every vote that is valid should be counted. You never know."
Quivey said the Board of Elections next priority is the 2014 gubernatorial race, which she expects to be "big."
