Ohio Athletics announced Monday night that its soccer coach of 13 seasons, Stacy Strauss, resigned to “pursue other professional opportunities.”
Strauss, who was set to earn $64,994 in 2012–13, declined to comment further on her future, saying, “That is all I want to share at this time.”
Ohio Athletics will begin a national coaching search effective immediately, according to a news release regarding Strauss’ departure. Tom Symonds, Ohio assistant athletics director for media relations, declined to comment further on the matter, saying there is no early indication whether Ohio will look to fill Strauss’ position internally.
Strauss, who led the Bobcats to their first outright Mid-American Conference regular season championship in 2001 and another in 2004, is the program’s all-time wins leader and earned 70 conference victories during her time in Athens.
“Winning two MAC Championships and helping to forge the maturity and growth of a multitude of talented student-athletes will count among the greatest accomplishments of my life,” Strauss said in the news release.
The Bobcats were 108-122-22 under her leadership. She also coached 24 all-MAC honorees and was named the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association coach of the year in 2002.
Before coming to Ohio, Strauss served two years as an assistant coach at Rhode Island and a single season in the same position at Dartmouth College.
Ohio finished its 2012 campaign Oct. 28 with a loss to Miami in the first round of the MAC Tournament.
The Bobcats finished the year 8-10-1 overall and won three of their 10 conference matches.
“We certainly appreciate the many years of loyal service that Stacy has given to Ohio University,” said Jim Schaus, Ohio director of athletics, in the news release. “We certainly wish her the very best in her future endeavors.”
