Ohio University will be shutting its doors for the first time this winter break.
OU will not be operating from Dec. 25 to Jan. 1, a new policy put into effect after the quarter to semester switch.
“It was determined that an effective closure should be put into place to compensate for that change,” said Adam Pergram, employment coordinator for Human Resources.
The president’s office made the official decision, and a steering committee put it into effect, Pergram said.
Faculty and staff were alerted of this change in April, and McDavis confirmed it in a letter.
During the closure, faculty will receive two days of paid time-off, according to McDavis’ letter.
The only services that will remain open over this break week will be essential services, such as the OU Police Department, said Pergram.
Nelson Dining Hall and Grab 'N Go will reopen at 11 a.m. on Jan. 13, with the other three dining halls opening the following day.
The markets on campus will reopen Jan. 13.
