Ladies get a new night

Jackie O’s Pub & Brewery will attract all the single ladies to its first-ever Ladies Night with DJ B-Funk spinning hip-hop and Top 40 hits from the past decade.

“As it is now, we will be hosting Ladies Night once a month,” said Proxy-Connection: keep-alive

tt Spolar, creative strategist for Jackie O’s. “If all goes well this first time around it could become a weekly event.”

Women will get free admission if they arrive before midnight and the bar will have drink specials for them as well.

Brandon “DJ B-Funk” Thompson, half of the duo Dave Rave, will step out of his normal bounds to play for Thursday’s show.

Dave Rave plays exclusively electronic dance music, and while Thompson loves that style, he also loves hip-hop and other styles of music that he doesn’t normally play.

“I don’t get many opportunities to step out of the Dave Rave format,” Thompson said. “With Ladies Night, it’s more about the requests and playing a lot of classics from the ’80s, ’90s and the 2000s.

Thompson added that he’s looking to bring back the classics because he believes that’s why ladies come out to these nights, “to hear their favorite music and get on the dance floor.”

Ladies Night will be the first of several new events at Jackie O’s, as they change from one booking agent to a collaborative effort, Spolar said. Four or five people will be on the booking staff, and a couple of them will be devoted to thinking of innovative new events.

Some other bars uptown offer a Ladies Night, such as Tony’s Tavern, 7 W. State St., but Spolar hopes that Thompson’s music can help distinguish the bar from the others.

“Not everyone has a music event,” Spolar said. “We don’t know if (Thompson) will join us on future nights, but we can offer different acts to get people to come out and have a good time.”
