If there’s one thing that can be made certain about Bob Saget’s stand-up performance Thursday night, it’s that his Full House character, Danny Tanner, was nowhere to be seen.
Though widely known for his wholesome work on Full House, Saget did not hold back the vulgarity during his performance at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium, frequently spewing jokes at the expense of certain audience members.
Indicating that the show would be filled with dirty jokes, Saget began his act apologizing to the audience of about 1,092.
“So you guys have a body of water called the Hocking River? Is it full of spit?”
Saget asked.
Fully aware of Full House’s reputation, Saget told jokes he “wasn’t supposed to tell” about working with John Stamos, or “Uncle Jesse,” and Dave Coulier, also known as “Uncle Joey.”
“Women love John Stamos,” Saget said. “You can literally hear women ovulating at him and he’s almost my age.”
Throughout the show, Saget joked about a series of YouTube videos titled, “Tourette’s Guy,” during which, instead of swearing, the character screams the comedian’s name.
Saget also referred to his work on America’s Funniest Home Videos as well as his cameo in the Dave Chappelle film, Half Baked.
“I love Tom Bergeron. He hosts America’s Funniest Videos, while I used to host America’s Funniest Home Videos,” Saget said. “But I guess so many people lost their houses, they just decided to take out the ‘home.’ ”
Though much of the audience found the show to be hysterically funny, others could have found Saget’s humor to be a bit over-the-top, said Matt Sochacki, a senior studying business and finance.
“I thought he was absolutely hilarious, but I could definitely see how some people could be offended,” he said. “I loved how he talked about being on Full House because that’s where most of us know him from.”
Midway through the performance, Saget played a guitar, performing raunchy sing-alongs with the audience about topics ranging from dating a woman at a nursing home to a song titled, “Danny Tanner is Not Gay.”
“I don’t think I’ll ever be able to watch Full House the same way again,” said Alyssa Pasicznyk, a sophomore studying journalism. “I was expecting him to be dirty, but not quite that dirty.”
