Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly issued a Level 1 snow alert for Athens County Wednesday evening.
Level 1, the lowest of three, indicates hazardous, icy roads and blowing snow.
In a Facebook post, Kelly cited the "extreme cold and icy road conditions" and urged residents to avoid driving if possible.
There were several weather-related car crashes prior to the alert, and at least one person was injured.
