As a staple in the entertainment industry for more than 35 years, Bob Saget has no intention of slowing down.
The star of Full House and voice of future Ted Mosby in How I Met Your Mother will be bringing his stand-up routine to Ohio University’s Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium Thursday.
Though widely known as his Danny Tanner character from Full House, Saget’s stand-up humor in no way corresponds to his character’s humor.
“Most people who’ve seen my show knew what they were getting themselves into when they got tickets,” Saget said. “If I came out in front of the school wearing a cardigan sweater and giving morality skills, it may be funny for a few minutes, but not really after that.”
Tickets for Saget’s show are now discounted at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium for $15 for the first ten rows and $10 for other seats.
Since Full House ended in 1995, Saget has kept busy performing stand-up, directing and starring in movies, acting on Broadway and most recently writing a book about comedy.
“Directing may be my very, very favorite because I like all of the creative moments involved,” he said. “Stand-up is kind of like my hard-drive though, it’s always in me.”
Most recently, Saget directed a comedic follow-up to the documentary March of the Penguins entitled, Farce of the Penguins.
Additionally, Saget is set to release a new stand-up special in May on cable. His last special, Bob Saget: That Ain’t Right, was released in 2007.
“It’s more dirty than my last HBO special,” he said. “It’s an honor that I’m still doing what I’m doing.”
Even on the day of the performance, OU’s University Program Council continues to sell tickets to Saget’s show and are expecting to sell the majority of the tickets the day of the event, said UPC President Kate Willse.
“We’re actually doing really well,” Willse said. “He‘s such a big-ticket name and we think a lot of people will be interested in seeing him perform live. We’re hoping for a full house, which is around 800 to 1000 tickets.”
University Program Council has sold about 500 tickets for Saget’s show, according to UPC Board Member Kari Nickell.
“Just (remember) that I’m here to educate them and give them public service announcements and things they shouldn’t do with their private parts,” Saget said. “Animals are God’s creatures and sea life is to be left in the ocean and stop touching yourself with it. I won’t be shy in telling them that.”
