Board of Trustees approve all resolutions at Chillicothe meeting

CHILLICOTHE—The Board of Trustees had its first full board meeting of the year with more than 60 people in attendance, forcing some attendees to stand in the back.

OU President Roderick McDavis first updated trustees on the Capital Campaign Plan. He said $416 million has been raised, with a goal of $450 million by June 2015.

“We believe we will pass our goal, but we are going to push beyond it,” he said. “We are a little over 92 percent, but who is counting? This number is one thing, but look what is behind it: scholarships, funds for facilities on campus, funds for academics and athletics.”

Each committee chair recounted what had been discussed during their individual meetings Thursday, ranging from tuition to athletics.

Trustees approved all resolutions brought forward, including the Housing Development Plan, the replacement of Peden Stadium’s turf, the renovation of the third floor of the Hudson Health Building, an electrical upgrade at the Computer Service Center and the renovation of OU’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Dublin extension campus.

“We are doing something right with the record-breaking application numbers we are getting today,” said trustee Sandra Anderson, of the executive committee.

OU has received 19,947 applications from high school seniors for the upcoming school year.

Trustees also agreed on some name changes.

The College of Business’ Management Systems Department will be changed to the Management Department. The Industrial Hygiene Program within the Department of Social and Public Health in the College of Health Sciences and Professions will be changed to the Occupational Hygiene & Safety Program, and the associated degree will be changed from a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Hygiene to a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Hygiene & Safety.

Trustees will meet again April 19.
