As Spring Semester flies by, another act has been added to the Performing Arts Series, electronic hip-hop duo Timeflies and Ohio University’s female rapper Bailee Moore.
The upcoming appearance was announced by the series in the early afternoon on Feb. 18.
Moore has been a frequently requested artist for the series as she has continued to rise to fame with her Youtube video and recently claimed spot as No.1 best female rapper on ryanseacrest.com. Similarly, Timeflies received notoriety by releasing a series of YouTube freestyle rap sessions as well as covering popular pop songs such as Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.”
Moore’s manager Matt Crumpton said the rapper is excited for the concert and for another opportunity to work side by side with Timeflies after teaming up during last year’s Number Fest.
Considering the artists’ history together, it was an easy pairing, said Andrew Holzaepfel, associate director of the Campus Involvement Center, in an email. He predicted the mash-up should be well received by students.
“I think it’s an odd set up,” said Shelby Sams, a sophomore studying sociology. “But we’ll have to see, I think it’ll be fun. At least the rest of the acts seem to be good so far.”
Colbie Caillat, Phillip Phillips and Rodney Atkins have already been announced for the series, some of which have taken the place of the Spring Convo Concert, although a comedy act is now scheduled to take place this spring, thanks to a decision made by Student Senate last week. The celebrity booked for the show has yet to be determined.
“We want to appeal to as many audiences as possible,” Holzaepfel said. “This spring, we have country stars, singer-songwriters and pop/top 40 to add to this newest announcement.”
Holzaepfel added that there will also be another addition to the Performing Arts Series’ list, which will be announced next week and will reflect a greater diversity among the acts.
The concert will be held April 10 in the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium. OU student tickets go on sale Thursday, $20 for the first 10 rows and $15 for the remainder. Tickets can be purchased at the MemAud ticket office.
