Grad students aim to sell out 'Green Fever' T-shirts

When Akron comes to town Wednesday night, the O-zone will be dressed in another green.

Master of sports administration and master of business administration graduate students will be selling the last of their Green Fever T-shirts at Wednesday’s basketball game against Akron, with all proceeds going toward the College of Business’ Center for Sports Administration scholarships.

The goal, said Carey Goodman, a first year MBA/MSA student and one of the five organizers of Green Fever, is to sell all 1,500 T-shirts ordered.

“It’s a big game so I’m hoping we can get rid of the rest,” said another leader and first-year MBA/MSA student Nate Engelhardt.

The team has been selling shirts for $15 in dining halls and Baker University Center since Jan. 18 and will be selling the remaining T-shirts at the game.

In addition to a shirt, those who purchase a Green Fever package receive a voucher, which can be traded for a coupon book containing more than $700 in coupons. The team increased the package’s price this year because of the increased value of the coupon book, which valued $200 last year, Goodman said.

“I don’t think people realize how much of an incentive the coupon book is,” Goodman said.

Green Fever is in its fifth year as a class project run by the MSA/MBA first year graduate students, Engelhardt said.

“Everybody has a different background and strengths and weaknesses, so the challenge is putting them together,” he said.

The class is also responsible for the Bobcat Blackout campaign, Goodman said, with proceeds also going toward sports administration scholarships.

“Being a part of this program has instilled in us the importance of giving back to the event,” Goodman said.

Both the logos for Bobcat Blackout and Green Fever fundraisers were designed by MSA graduate student Britton Spark, who was asked to design the logo because of his degrees from Scripps College of Communications.

“Whenever there’s a need for a design element, I kind of just get asked,” Spark said.

After reviewing the Green Fever logos from the last four years, he decided to go for a completely different design in order to make this year’s logo stand apart from the rest.

“I know how much pride people have in their state here, it would help make sure people want to wear,” Spark said.
