Nelsonville Music Festival announces additions to line-up

Nelsonville Music Festival announced their second round of artists, touting a new diverse lineup.

Soul singer Mavis Staples and punk musician Jonathan Richman were among the biggest announcements along side artists Sharon Van Etten, Wild Belle, David Wax Museum, Brown Bird, Endless Boogie, Anais Mitchell and Lucius.

“We try hard to have something that appeals to everyone,” said Brian Koscho, marketing and promotions coordinator for Nelsonville Music Festival. “These are bands that haven’t completely broken through yet but by the end of the weekend have become people’s favorite band.”

Mavis Staples is a rock and roll hall of famer most well known for her work in her family band The Staples Singers and her activist song writing. Her newest album You Are Not Alone discusses issues of poverty, jobs and welfare.

Jonathan Richman is credited with being a godfather of punk for founding the progressive ’70s punk band The Modern Lovers and for their hit song Roadrunner.

The second round of announcements also marks a rise in price from $90 to $100 for the four-day weekend.
