OU football player pleads no contest to charge of punching another student

A Boyd Hall resident who allegedly assaulted another Ohio University student in October switched his plea from not guilty to no contest in a pre-trial in the Athens Municipal Court on Monday.

Keith “Mike” Lucas, an OU football player, was charged for punching freshman David Speier in the face, which is classified as a first degree misdemeanor.

By pleading no contest, Lucas admitted to the facts of the case while avoiding a jury trial, and is therefore still considered guilty.

Lucas’s total fine is $204, which must be paid by March 11; however, his original fine was $604 before Judge William Grim granted a $400 suspension, according to the court docket.

Lucas originally faced 90 days in jail, but Grim dismissed the sentence after the plea change.

Grim’s only probation requirement on the court docket states that Lucas must “obey all laws for two years.”
