Student dismisses lawsuit against OU

An Ohio University student dismissed her personal injury lawsuit against the university Thursday.

Deana Lewis, 18, filed a complaint against OU in the Ohio Court of Claims Nov. 28 after she claimed to have been injured after slipping in a campus laundry room.

Lewis filed a motion to dismiss the complaint Thursday.

Lewis said in court documents that she slipped on a recently mopped floor in the laundry room while carrying a laundry basket at about 11 a.m. on Sept. 14. She landed on her head and was disoriented for a period of time, according to court documents.

She requested the court order OU to pay her $80 to cover a hospital visit, $10 for a doctor visit, $51.20 for an X-ray and $550 for “possible future medical expenses” for a total of $691.20.

In a report filed by George T. Wendt, OU’s risk manager, Jan. 25, Wendt said Lewis only had to pay $60.66 because the other $630.54 was covered by insurance.

Lewis did not provide a reason for her dismissal in the motion.

Neither the court nor OU has responded to the motion.
