Home for spring break? Friends still at school? Parents on your nerves? Starting to get bored? Take a gander at this list of activities that will help you make it through the homestretch.
A Television Telethon/ Movie Marathon
Whoever said TV will rot your brain was lying. Take this time to catch up on all the episodes you’ve missed while studiously doing homework. There are so many options for your choosing; now find one! Not a TV fan? Watch movies! Not any movies, but your favorites! How long has it been since you’ve seen your favorite Disney flick or scary thriller?
Book Mania
Homework and extracurricular activities leave little time for recreational reading. Pick up that novel you set aside in September and start reading! Looking for suggestions? Since you probably didn’t have time to read all of the bestsellers of 2012, here are some suggestions from
The New York Times
,
NPR
and
The Huffington Post
:
A Hologram for the King
,
The Fault in Our Stars
,
The Yellow Birds
,
My Heart is an Idiot
, and
Gone Girl
. If none of these appeal to you, read one of your favorites again!
A Baking Bash
Life in the dorms doesn’t allow for much home style cooking. Grab a pot and pan or a cookie sheet and start cooking! Not only will this call for a fun time with the family, but you can also learn to love new flavors and new dishes. Need inspiration for a fabulous dinner or snack? See what these famous chefs have to offer: www.marthastewart.com/food, www.rachaelray.com/food_search.php or www.pauladeen.com/recipes/.
Road Trip to a Restaurant
As poor college students, how on earth are we expected to go out for a nice meal? Ain’t nobody got the money for that! Take advantage of being home and fool your parents by asking to go out for a “family meal” when in reality this just means great food that you don’t have to prepare or clean up afterward – plus you won’t be paying.
Spring Cleaning
Don’t worry; this does not mean you have to clean the entire house. Simply prepare your room for your summer return. Most likely you’ve acquired new clothes or knickknacks, so get rid of your old ones. Donate clothes or sell them at Plato’s Closet. Pawn old stuff and make some money – because you can never have enough of that. Be creative with old clothing! Old t-shirts can become great DIY projects. If you’re lacking in inspiration, turn to Pinterest.
Remember to have fun this break, because come Monday, the chaos returns.
