More than a decade ago, then-Julliard freshmen Greg Anderson and Elizabeth Roe met during summer orientation. Both instrumentalists, they quickly became close friends and later set out to create an innovative musical
experience.
Several international tours later, Anderson and Roe have transformed the world of piano performance through new compositions and revamped arrangements of popular
pieces.
Their multi-generational repertoire includes everything from Mozart and Rachmaninoff to covers of contemporary artists like Radiohead. The duo will continue to add new and exciting elements to each performance.
“We find ways to bring music to life through musical means,” Roe said. “We’re both passionate about trying new things.”
Associate professor of piano Christopher Fisher applauded the duo’s innovation within the world of music.
“Anderson and Roe are truly revolutionizing the classical music concert, transforming it into an emotionally charged, visceral musical experience,” Fisher said.
Fisher, who helped make this performance possible, added that college-aged students would be able to thoroughly enjoy the experience.
“Their mature musicianship coupled with an undeniable hip-factor makes these artists a breath of fresh air,” Fisher said. “The duo is fulfilling their mission of making classical music a relevant and powerful force in society.”
Through on-stage interactions and the element of surprise, both Anderson and Roe create a unique experience for every audience. They will perform at 3 p.m. on Saturday in the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium.
“When we play on one piano, we like to think about it acrobatically,” Anderson said. “There are choreographed elements (in each piece) that make the performance come alive.”
“You can expect a lot of interaction between Greg and I,” Roe added.
Part of the duo’s continued success is their chemistry with one another.
“(When we perform) it just feels like we’re hanging out,” Anderson said.
After the concert is over, attendees are encouraged to stay afterwards for a Q-and-A and meet-and-greet sessions with the duo. Their new album When Words Fade will also be available for purchase.
