Warm weather brings crowds to High Fest

Warmer temperatures and sunshine brought swarms of festgoers to High Street early for this weekend’s fest.

Despite the crowds, law enforcement and partiers said High Fest has been relatively tame.

Police were patrolling the street all day, but foot patrols weren’t out until around 3:00 p.m.

Gina Munafo, a junior majoring in speech pathology, said she preferred the fests when Ohio University was on the quarter system.

Matthew Birdsall, a senior sports administration major, lives on High Street and has never lived on a street when a fest was going on.

“(I’m) checkin’ something off the bucket list today.” Birdsall said. “Everyone is having a great time and we want everyone to continue to have fun.”

DJ Ace played off the back porch of a Washington Street resident facing the festivities.

"Honestly I don't like playing fests because of all of the drunkeness around my equipment,” Ace said. “I do it more for the atmosphere.”

Jade Garcia, a freshman Ohio University student, said High Fest was not her first fest, but was surprised at the turnout.

“(High Fest) has the impression of not being a lot of fun,” Garcia said. “I got to know a lot more people; I think it’s pretty fun.”
