Emergency water bottles cost university $7,000

One month ago, students in Ohio University residence halls were taking cold showers, boiling water and brushing their teeth with not a bottle of Jack, but a bottle of water that was provided to them.

On Feb. 26, the main water line burst on North Congress Street, which caused mild turmoil on campus.

In order to help with some of the stress, Residential Housing distributed 22,176 bottles of water to students.

The Bobcat Water was obtained through Culinary Services and cost $7,161, which was paid for with student room and board charges.

“It is our policy that we keep bottled water on hand for situations like the pipe burst,” said Josh Bodnar, assistant director of residential housing. “I think students appreciated that we were working to try and get them drinking water and everyone was obviously a little frustrated with not being able to have hot water or running water, but I think they were appreciative that we were doing everything we could do.”
