Kingsfoil returns to Athens despite challenges with weather

Fans that missed their chance to see the band Kingsfoil when they came into town last semester have found themselves in luck.

The band was originally set to perform outside on South Beach, however, due to impending weather conditions, the show had to be relocated. The band will perform a set at Jackie O’s Pub and Brewery, 24 W. Union St., Friday.

Though the band originally thought the show would be free, with the venue change a cover charge was added. The band also posted on their blog that only 25 audience members under 21 would be admitted to the show. Despite these challenges, the band said they are excited to revist Athens.

“OU is honestly one of our favorite schools,” said Jordan Davis, singer of Kingsfoil. “We have been able to play there a few times in the past and everybody at the school has been great to us. We love OU.”

The band, most notably known for its drummer, Frankie Muniz, star of the sitcom Malcolm in the Middle, performed a free show last semester in Baker. Due to their warm response, the band was able to come back a second time this year.

Above all else, Davis said the band is looking forward to performing once again with the students of Ohio University. He said they hope to make this show as fun and memorable as last time, if not more.

“When we have played at OU before we have had so much fun,” Davis said. “A lot students know our songs and bring a great energy. We are looking forward to putting on the best show we can.”

Based in mid-state Pennsylvania, Kingsfoil is an indie rock band composed of singer Davis, keyboard and guitar Tristan Martin, bassist Tim Warren, and drummer Muniz. While the band formed together in 2002, Muniz only recently joined the band in April 2012.

Their last show primarily featured singles of their album, A Beating Heart is a Bleeding Heart. While this show will be featuring some of those songs again, the band promises that there will be more in store for tonight’s show.

“We have added some new songs to our set as well as some songs off our old record,” Davis said. “(We’re) definitely trying to make each show we play at OU something special.”
