Men's Basketball: Cooper holds court at Portsmouth Invitational

D.J. Cooper impressed in his second post-collegiate showcase, as he wrapped up his Portsmouth Invitational Tournament performance only two rebounds shy of a triple-double Saturday.

He averaged 11.7 points, 7.3 assists and 5.7 rebounds in three games. The showcase featured 64 professional prospects that competed for eight teams over four days in front of professional scouts.

Cooper’s agent, Michael Naiditch, said heading into the event that it would offer Cooper another chance to make an impression on professional personnel.

“At this stage of his career so much depends on performance in each evaluation stage,” Naiditch said.

Naiditch also said that beyond his performance on the hardwood, Cooper would have the opportunity to have some face time with scouts during the invitational — something he wasn’t afforded much at the Reese’s College All-Star Game on April 6.

Cooper will spend the remainder of the spring training in Athens and his hometown of Chicago in preparation for the June 7-8 NBA Draft Combine in Chicago.
