Student protestors plead 'not guilty' to disruption charges

The four protestors that were arrested and charged with disruption of Friday’s Board of Trustees meeting appeared in the Athens Municipal Court Monday morning.

Eden Almasude, a second-year graduate student studying African Studies, Ellie Hamrick, a senior studying anthropology, Megan Marzec, a sophomore studying studio art and Jessica Lindner, a sophomore studying environmental and plant biology, all pleaded not guilty during their arraignment.

Judge William Grim of the Athens Municipal Court released all the students on their own recognizance and told them to be “law-abiding” citizens. All four are scheduled for a pre-trial at 8 a.m. May 7.

“I know we did the right thing,” Almasude said. “I’m confident in our actions.”
