Nelsonville councilman faces domestic violence charges

A Nelsonville City Councilman pleaded not guilty to a fourth-degree misdemeanor Thursday in Athens Municipal Court.

Bill Hoag Jr., 41, entered a not guilty plea to domestic violence. The charge follows an alleged report that Houg threatened to hit his daughter last week.

Though he was originally scheduled for arraignment Wednesday, Hoag was arraigned Thursday before Judge William Grim, according to the court docket.

The maximum penalty for a fourth-degree misdemeanor, according to the Ohio Revised Code, is 30 days in jail and a fine of $250.
