OU-HCOM appoints dean for its Columbus branch

Ohio University’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine is preparing to move part of its operations south and open up its extension branch in Columbus. But first it had to hire a dean.

Wednesday afternoon, the college announced its appointment of Dr. William Burke to the position. Burke is a 1988 OU-HCOM graduate and is currently the vice president for medical education at OhioHealth Doctors Hospital.

“In Bill, we’ve found the ideal dean for our growth as we further develop to meet Ohio’s need for primary care, especially in our underserved communities,” said Dr. Kenneth Johnson, dean of OU-HCOM’s Athens campus, in a news release.

OU-HCOM is partnering with OhioHealth for residency and classroom learning options.

The Columbus branch will be located on Post Road in Dublin. Construction will begin in July 2013 so the college can meet its goal of enrolling 50 students by July 2014.
