The Bureau of Criminal Investigations executed search warrants on Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly and his staff, according to a Facebook post by Kelly.
The searches come amid an ongoing investigation of the Athens County Sheriff’s Office by Attorney General Mike DeWine’s office.
After testifying in front of a grand jury Thursday about accusations that Kelly’s office illegally dumped county records, the Bureau of Criminal Investigations at DeWine’s office is still investigating the case.
“My office will continue providing the same level of professionalism that restored our office as a leader in our county,” Kelly said in his post.
Kelly posted a follow-up Facebook post Monday saying he and his staff were "under attack" and that he is not allowed to provide information on the searches or the investigation.
Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn said that Kelly was asked to testify about “several” ongoing investigations, which could include the records dumping, according to a previous Post article.
“I don’t have information on whether or not the sheriff will be indicted,” Blackburn said. “I know that my files are still missing at the dump and they were sent there between May 13 and May 15.”
