Ohio athletes you should know

With more than 400 student-athletes at Ohio, it can be complicated to remember every name and match them with the right sport. To not be completely thrown off in conversations about Bobcat sports, however, you should know about these 10 Bobcats:

1. Tyler Tettleton — Football

The redshirt senior quarterback directed Ohio to a 24-14 victory over Penn State last year and has already broken 23 school records during his career. In his final season, he will attempt to lead the Bobcats to their first Mid-American Conference Championship in 45 years.

2. Beau Blankenship — Football

Ohio’s senior running back had nine games with more than 100 rushing yards last season and rushed a school record-breaking total of 1,604 yards. He will attempt to continue to break through defenses with his furious speed this fall.

3. Nick Kellogg — Basketball

Ohio’s senior guard is the only starter from last year’s campaign expected to return this year. With four Bobcats graduated, his experience will be crucial to Ohio next year as they try to win at least a share of the MAC title for the second consecutive year.

4. Stevie Taylor — Basketball

The point guard replaced NBA prospect D.J. Cooper whenever he needed a break last season. This season, however, he will attempt to follow in Cooper’s footsteps as a junior.

5. Juli Accurso — Track & Field/Cross Country

The three-time All-American won the Great Lakes Regional Race for the first time in school history last year and placed 38th at the NCAA Championships. In the fall she has the chance to win the cross country championship for the third time.

6. Cody Walters — Wrestling

The 174-pound wrestler was named MAC freshman of the year last season after winning the MAC title in his weight class. He also placed eighth at the NCAA Championships.

7. Kelly Lamberti — Volleyball

The junior outside hitter earned MAC player of the year last year after scoring 393 kills and 1,122 attacks. After losing in the MAC Tournament semifinals last year, she will attempt to lead the Bobcats to a MAC Tournament title this year.

8. Mattie Liston — Women’s Soccer

Liston, a senior goalie, became Ohio’s all-time save leader at the end of last year, as she now has 256 saves. Her 112 saves last season were tops in the MAC, while she also posted a shutout in six of the Bobcats’ seven wins in 2012.

9. Laurin Williams — Swimming & Diving

The distance swimmer went to the NCAA Championships twice in the past two years to take on the 1,650-yard freestyle and placed 23rd and 36th, respectively. The senior also holds a school record in the 500-yard freestyle.

10. Jessica Jue — Field Hockey

The junior earned First Team All-MAC honors last season and broke the program record for most assists with 18. After a strong class graduated last season, she will play a crucial role for the Bobcats next year.
