OU appoints new national trustee

Continuing the summer reshuffling of top administrative positions, Ohio University has a new member for its Board of Trustees.

Peggy Viehweger, a 1971 graduate of OU and the former president and CEO of Supresta in New York, has been selected by OU’s Board of Trustees to serve as a national trustee, according to a news release.

A native of Athens, Viehweger is one of two national trustees on the Board, a non-voting appointment with a three year term. Viehweger replaces Henry Heilbrunn, whose term expired in June, according to the release.

"I am thrilled to welcome Peggy to the Board of Trustees," said OU President Roderick McDavis, in the release. "Peggy's commitment to Ohio University coupled with her leadership skills and experience in strategic planning and management will be an asset to the Board and to this University, and I look forward to working with her."

Viehweger has previously run multiple businesses and at one point, she was responsible for $1 billion in business. Viehweger worked at Akzo Nobel, a paint and coatings company, for 15 years where she was made the first American and first woman to be a business unit manager. Then she worked at Supresta, which was once part of Akzo, according to the release.

Viehweger is already a trustee for the OU Foundation and represents the College of Arts and Sciences on The Promise Lives Campaign. She is also a member of OU’s Women in Philanthropy.

"I trust my background will mesh with others' to bring additional value to the wonderful purpose of Ohio University, which for me is to create independent, thinking, confident people who contribute to the world their individual talents,” Viehweger said, in the release.
