University ends national search, hires data analyst

Another position has been filled in Ohio University’s provost office, ending one more national search.

Barbara Wharton, currently Otterbein University's assistant vice president for Institutional Planning, has been appointed to the position of associate provost for Institutional Research, Executive Vice President and Provost Pam Benoit announced in a news release.

“We are indeed fortunate to welcome a new colleague with such a breadth of experience in assessment, planning and leadership,” said Benoit in the release. “Please join me in welcoming Dr. Wharton to Athens as she takes on the responsibilities for leading a dynamic and dedicated staff."

Wharton will start in her new job Aug. 15. OU could not immediately be reached for comment regarding Wharton’s 2013-14 salary.

OU’s Office of Institutional Research is responsible for compiling and studying data that impacts the performance, environment and decision making of the university, according to the office’s website. These duties include assembling graduation rates, retention studies and surveying students and alumni.

Wharton is filling the position vacated by Michael Williford, the longtime head of Institutional Research at OU. Williford left the job in February 2013 for associate provost for Institutional Accreditation.

Williford made $137,909 during the 2012-13 school year as associate provost for Institutional Research.
