Ohio University’s chilled-water plant failed Sunday, leaving temperatures in campus buildings hotter than usual and requiring some to be shut down completely.
A university-issued alert notified students and faculty of the emergency shutdown in several buildings because of interior temperatures reaching 10 to 15 degrees above outside temperatures. Other campus buildings might also get hotter than usual.
Monday’s temperature in Athens is expected to reach 92 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
OU also requested no activities or classes be conducted in certain buildings for “life and health safety purposes.” Buildings were closed to protect research and other “priority activities,” according to the alert.
Employees in the buildings were asked to notify supervisors for further instructions. Classes and activities in the following buildings will be moved, cancelled or rescheduled:
-
Human Resources Training Center (HRTC)
-
Stocker Center
-
Boyd Hall
-
The Convo
-
Irvine Hall
Repairs are expected to be made within several days, according to the alert.
