Police are still looking for a man who held up the JPMorgan Chase & Co. branch at 920 E. State St. in Athens on Monday afternoon, but law enforcement were short on details right after the robbery.

At about 2:40 p.m., a man walked into the bank and robbed it using what looks like a semi-automatic silver handgun, according to a news release from Athens Police Department.

A suspect has not been named; however, Athens police have released a photo of the suspect, who appears to be a white male wearing sunglasses and a dark cap.

The suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of money, and police do not know which direction he went when he left or if the suspect escaped in a vehicle or on foot.

Chase officials were able to confirm there was a robbery, but have not responded to repeated calls from The Post for further comment.

Athens has seen its fair share of bank robberies in the past few years. This summer, Peoples Bank, 801 E. State St., was robbed, making Chase the second East State Street bank to be robbed in the past 60 days.

Within days of the Peoples Bank robbery, an Albany man named Emmanuel Arocho, 31, turned himself in.

Just days after Arocho turned himself in, a man held up Foodland Grocery Store at gunpoint in The Plains after tying up employees and demanding they empty the safe.

Police have not commented on whether they believe the two robberies are connected or not.

Suspects in the Chase, Peoples Bank and Foodland robberies were all identified as white males who were believed to have worked alone.

Anyone with any information about this suspect is advised to call the Athens Police Department at (740)593-6606.
