Coolville man receives another felony charge for raping teenage girl

A Coolville man who allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl in Athens County now has a second felony charge in his case.

In addition to one count of rape, Harley E. Wilson, 35, now faces one charge of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor or corruption, according to court documents.

He allegedly raped the teen girl, now 14, in Coolville in June.

The count of rape entails that he “purposely compelled her to submit by force or threat of force,” according to court documents. “The offender knew the other person was 13 years of age or older but less than 16 years of age. ... The offender was reckless in that regard.”

Wilson entered a not guilty plea during his arraignment on Aug. 21. He was incarcerated in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail with a bond set at $75,000 — without 10 percent allowed — plus a Clerk of Courts fee of $25.

Wilson was ordered to take a mental health evaluation as well as avoid contact with the victim. He appeared in front of Judge L. Alan Goldsberry, who granted the request that Wilson be tested for STDs.

The punishment for this case of rape, a first-degree felony, is at least five years in prison for Wilson, according to the Ohio Revised Code.

Wilson is scheduled for a pretrial on Oct. 1 and jury trial on Oct. 22.
