Smokers beware: Your last on-campus puff is approaching.
Ohio University’s plan to make OU a tobacco-free campus will be unveiled at the board of trustees meeting Aug. 29, ac cording to the trustees’ agenda.
The decision to make OU tobacco-free is the culmina tion of almost a year of work by a 19-member task force led by Ryan Lombardi, OU’s vice presi dent for student affairs, which started meeting last fall to dis cuss a smoking ban.
Lombardi could not be reached for comment by press time.
Ohio Board of Regents recom mended public universities con sider smoking bans in 2012, but the board can make only recom mendations, not policy changes.
The ban will not be immedi ate and will be rolled out over the next three years, according to the agenda.
Previous discussions have in cluded adding designated smok ing areas on campus.
Cleveland State University and Ohio State University have both decided to be tobacco-free campuses.
