Athens man convicted on several counts of burglary and drug charges

A local man received a four-year prison sentence Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to two counts of tampering with evidence and another for aggravated possession of drugs, among other charges.

Jason French, of Athens, also pleaded guilty to one count of breaking and entering and two counts of possession of drugs.

“On Nov. 28, 2010, while working as a security guard for Holzer in Athens, French disabled the security system and took numerous prescription pills from the pharmacy,” Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn said in a news release.

Two days later, police executed a search warrant at French’s residence and found several types of prescription medications.

French, 39, admitted to throwing most of the oxycontin and oxycodone into a nearby lake, according to the release, and he disposed of the original packaging to avoid the possibility of law enforcement tracing the drugs back to Holzer.

He appeared before Judge George P. McCarthy and received four years in prison.
