Continuing where they left off two weeks ago, Athens City Council will meet Monday at 7:30 p.m. for their weekly meeting and will go over new ordinances for Halloween weekend, Friday Oct. 25 through Sunday Oct. 27.
As they move into ordinances being read for the first time, council will establish a "real and present emergency" regarding the fire escape at the City Building on E. Washington Street. Council members in the past have said it is in dire need of repair. They are likely to vote to formally start the bidding process for contracts.
Other ordinances up before the council tonight: a vote to begin the bidding procedure for repairs to elevator's at the city's parking garage; purchasing a new mower for the Arts, Parks and Recreation Department; and street improvements at University Estates.
