Graduate Student Senate is working on a plan to upheave the Bobcat Student Lounge in favor of “getting away from the coffee and study element.”
Ohio University’s undergraduate Student Senate recently oversaw updates to the Bobcat Student Lounge, located on Baker University Center’s first floor throughout the 2011-12 school year. The total project had a budget of $200,000, according to a past Post article.
GSS is considering a “more fun” environment; GSS President Joel Newby suggested at Monday’s meeting that it could include a sports bar.
GSS plans to put together online options for students to choose from in order to gather feedback.
Bill Arnold, graduate assistant for bystander intervention and prevention education for OU’s Women’s Center, also highlighted the “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event in a presentation. The sixth annual event will be held Oct. 19.
“Its primary value is to really raise awareness,” Arnold said.
Newby also stressed the importance of keeping office hours — which will be mandatory for this year’s senators, commissioners and representatives.
GSS passed a resolution to use $200 for GradFest, which will include food and admission wristbands.
A second resolution was passed which admitted new members into the senate.
GSS is also mulling over the idea of purchasing name badges instead of T-shirts to wear at events. The badges will make recognizing GSS members at university events easier, while still allowing them to keep formal attire, Newby said.
