Park Place reopens as Alden closes overnight

As Alden Library prepared to close its doors early Wednesday morning, Park Place reopened to westbound traffic.

The library’s water main was shut off at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday to conduct emergency repairs to a pipe in the building’s sub-basement, said Kate Mason, coordinator of communications & assistant to the dean.

“The water main is being shutoff so we’ll have no hot or cold water,” Mason said.

Kelly Broughton, assistant dean for research and education services, emailed the information announcing Alden’s closure to library employees at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Mason said.

The library had no additional information about why the pipe broke or any damage it could cause. It will reopen at 8 a.m. Wednesday morning, Mason said.

Meanwhile, Park Place’s westbound lane reopened Tuesday after more than a month of construction repairing decades-old steam tunnels below the brick street.

The project cost $390,000 and had no timeline for completion, according to a previous Post article.

OU spokeswoman Katie Quaranta had no further information about either Park Place’s reopening or Alden’s closing as of press time.
