Pittsburgh band to conquer Casa's stage

Friday the 13th may be a lucky day for Athens music lovers as Casa Nueva, 6 W. State St., welcomes Pittsburgh-based band Chrome Moses and local opener Dune.

Chrome Moses is a three-piece rock band with Joe Piacquadio on guitar and lead vocals, TJ Connolly on bass and backing vocals and Clarence Grant II on drums. The band describes itself as a combination of The Strokes and Cream, while incorporating aspects of blues and gospel.

The band is currently touring Ohio and has already stopped in Cleveland.

“Our booking agent is trying to get us a foothold (in Ohio),” Connolly said in an email. “Ohioans are similar people (to those in Pittsburgh) … (I) heard good things about the culture (in Athens).”

Formed in 2008, Chrome Moses has gone through several drummers and is now touring with Grant as the newest addition to that lineup.

“The current trio works well together,” Piacquadio said about Grant’s inclusion to the band. “This is the best lineup we’ve had so far.”

Chrome Moses will be playing songs from their latest self-titled EP, including “Knock One More Time,” which Piacquadio wrote himself.

“I write mostly about love, everyday life, broken hearts and coping,” Piacquadio said.

The show will kick off at 10 p.m. with Dune and its set of heavy “desert rock” tunes.

Dune consists of Louis Knight and Matt Toledo on guitar, Josh Brown on bass and Alex Neff on drums. Their heavy and melodic instrumentals are coupled with Knight's vocals.

Bassist Josh Brown is also the booking agent for Casa and the group regularly plays the Athens Halloween Block Party and draws a large crowd with heavy tunes.
