If you’re seeking advice on how to improve your image, look no further than Baker University Center’s first floor.
The Career and Leadership Development Center is hosting an informative program Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the Bobcat Student Lounge. The presentation, called “Dress for Success: Suit Up!,” will teach students how to impress prospective employers through the clothes they wear.
Students pick up some tips and tricks on how they should dress for next week’s Career Fair, said Julia Fleming, Ohio University’s assistant director of the Career and Leadership Development Center.
The Career and Internship Fair will be held Tuesday, Sept. 24th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Baker Center Ballroom.
The Dress for Success presentation features two guest speakers who will individually represent both the men’s and women’s side of professional dress: Shay-Jahen Merritté, the chief creative officer at a men’s clothing store called Pursuit on Ohio State University’s campus, and Judy Piercy, a representative from Student Affairs at OU.
Nate DeMars, the owner of Pursuit, said his store specializes in suit-and-tie clothing and that it professionally dressed male students at OSU for years.
“Pursuit has worked with OU the past school year and this school year,” DeMars said.
His store will donate a voucher for a suit to a student who attends the presentation, as the store’s goal is to help college men with job interviews, DeMars said.
Although the value of the suit is unknown and the winner will need to have the suit tailored, DeMars said all suits produced by Pursuit are of excellent quality.
Students should attend in everyday clothing, Fleming said.
“The reason we’re doing this program is that you only have one chance to give a first impression,” she said. “This is why dressing professionally is so important.”
