Women's Golf: Bobcats meet goal, place in top eight

The women’s golf team placed sixth in the Red Bird Invitational in Normal, Ill., on Monday.

The Bobcats scored 918 points, accomplishing the team’s personal goal of finishing in the top eight.  

Toledo placed first with a total score of 890 points, Ball State with 902, Bowling Green close behind with a score of 903, Illinois State with 908, and Bradley taking fifth with 910 points.  

It was a successful weekend for the Bobcats, as sophomore Lauren McKinzie had the best tournament of her career with a total score of 231.  

Fellow sophomore Angela Codian placed ninth overall with a score of 223 and rounds of 76, 73, and 74.   

Senior Kara Brinkmann and junior Julie Lechner both played solid and consistent rounds, shooting 246 and 233 respectively. Hailey Hrynewich kicked off her freshman year shooting rounds of 79, 77, and 75, finishing 15 over par and 24th overall.

“I think that everyone as a whole contributed to a great team score,” Codian said. “It was a wonderful team effort from everyone.”

The Bobcats return to action Sept. 27, when they take part in the Nittany Lion Invitational held at Penn State’s Blue Course in University Park, Pa.
